Presvitera’s Homemade Phyllo

Today I get to share with you homemade phyllo dough by one of the best homemakers ever, my mother-in-law. She is a self taught cook beginning from the time she married, and has amazingly developed her cooking skills along with raising 5 wonderful children - of whom I married the eldest.  I have been trying to learn some of her recipes so that I can recreate them for my husband anytime he is feeling homesick for Greece. The only problem with that is ,like with all good cooks (and most Greeks), she uses a few recipes and doesn’t quite measure the same as us Americans. Here they use water glasses, coffee cups, and soup or sweet spoons – no fancy measuring cups to go by. It makes trying to copycat her recipes a bit more difficult, but with time I will continue to try.

Homemade Stovetop Popcorn . . .

. . . made with coconut oil!!!

Have you ever had homemade popcorn? And I do not mean from your microwave, rather, freshly popped from your own stove top with 3 very simple ingredients!

Have you ever had homemade popcorn with coconut oil?

If you answered no to either one of these questions, I promise you that you will not regret making your own popcorn. And if at all possible, use organic coconut oil, the nutritious benefits are not the only reason to try it, I love the added flavor!

So, it looks like Grandma was right giving you a ginger ale anytime you complained for something. Okay, well my grandma never did that, but I am sure there are lots of grandmas who do. Heck, I will probably end up as that old lady with smeared, bright red lipstick and blue eyeshadow pretending to be a little senile while I go around giving ginger ale to the sick children of the neighborhood. It could happen, just don’t hold your breathe!
